Business Process Transformation
Business processes are like the blood vessels of a company, responsible for moving orders, products and projects quickly and efficiently from conception to completion.
Do your business processes flow smoothly and joyfully for you, your customers and employees?
If not, improving your business processes may be one of the most important things you can do to improve the performance of your business or organization.
A widely respected business study, the Profit Impact of Marketing Strategy (or PIMS) project, analyzed hundreds of companies to determine the most important variables that drive profits. Which variables proved the winners? High market share, high product quality and high service quality, all measured relative to direct industry competitors, were the most significant variables that led to increasing profitability over time. Your business processes are a key driver of both product quality and service quality.
The Ritz-Carlton Company, an organization known for its extraordinary customer experience, increased its sales revenues by 250% between 1998 and 2007, from $1.2 billion to $3.0 billion. After experiencing significant financial ups and downs over the years, the company credits its resurgence to a quest to “not cut corners but to become more focused and to get the maximum quality through efficient processes” (The New Gold Standard, McGraw-Hill, 2008.) As a result, Ritz-Carlton became the first company to twice win the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in the service category.
According to Robert S. Kaplan and David P. Norton, the inventors of the Balanced Scorecard, “A visionary strategy that is not linked to excellent operational and governance processes cannot be implemented” (Execution Premium, Harvard Business School Press, 2008.)
Just as a high level of physical fitness and conditioning cannot be achieved without exercising your muscles, a high level of business performance cannot be realized without making efforts to develop strong, robust business processes capable of delivering efficiently and effectively against your business requirements.
